Election TV ads

Here are four TV ads for Obama and McCain. After each ad, answer the questions on your own paper. You DON'T need to understand everything in the ad. Only watch each ad two times.

Ad #2. Don't get confused, this is an Obama ad. Hint: maverick means a person who makes their own choices. If John McCain is a maverick, that means that he doesn't agree with Bush all the time.

On Tuesday February 5th, if you are a citizen, you can vote for the Presidential candidate for your party. What does that mean? Right now, there are six main people who are trying to be President. After everyone votes, there will only be two people left.

If you are a Democrat, you can choose either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. If you are a Republican, you can choose Mitt Romney, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, or Ron Paul.

You need to know that the Democrats and Republicans will vote in different buildings. The link at the bottom will show you a list of places to vote. You need to choose the right place for the person you want to vote for. Where I live, the Democrats will vote at the high school and the Republicans will vote at the junior high.

Also, you need to know that you can only vote between 6:30pm and 8pm on Tuesday Feb 5th. Usually when we vote, you can go any time all day, but tomorrow is different. Some websites will say that you can only vote after 7pm, but I think that this isn't true. I think they changed the start time to 6:30pm but didn't change the information in every place.

In my country it rains too much. We have floods. You should wear a raincoat and an umbrella.

In my country flood to much rain. Sometimes the water is very big. The water took people and horses, buildings and houses and many many things. When they have rain, camels and sheep got killed. the children are afraid go to school because the water is big, so they can't cross.

Two years ago, there was a very bad storm. And too much rains that night. I woke at 5:oo in the morning with no power. So I couldn't open my garage. Then I went to open the door. A very big tree fell down on my front door. I couldn't get to work that day. At 6:30 my lead called me and I said I can't get my car out. So they sent my friend to bring me to woke that day.

My Country has too much rain and a lot storms. The land and the houses are mud slide. In my country in July and Aug there is too much rain. Alot of water comes from the river. The water floods. We can not go anywhere.

The bad weather, in my country there was too much rain. In the high land they had mud slide and the flat land had flood. So majority of the people are farmers. Rice field may flood.
The people 99% did not like bad weather. Because they are poor every year when have bad weather.

My first country is Laos. In 1998 in my village, there was too much rain. It rained many many days. There was a river across my village and bridges. It rained,the wind blew and like storms. One day I woke up in the morning cook breakfast, I heard somebody yell and run in to the river. I went to look at the people and I said what happened? They said flood, go look at the river. It was too big and it didn't see the bridge. I ran to the river. The animal and my rice in the field it dead. Some people in the farm were dead. People in my village rode in the boat to help people in the other village and some one who in the farm. That time in my village very bad weather in all my life. We didn't have any food to eat. We made the corn to eat for rice. After that the other country sent us the rice and gave the food for us.

In my country I live in Acapulco Gro. state of Mexico. Sometimes when there is Hurricane my family does not buy groceries for many days. Only we have beans, sugar, salt, rice. The weather was bad. It rained for many days. The river was big. We did not cross the river to buy food. Or something. We needed to let the hurricane pass and the river slow down.

Earthquake

In Laos, they don't have a big earthquake, but they have a small earthquake. In one day an earthquake in my village, made my cousin's house fell down and his wife was stuck inside the house. One side of their wall also fell down and hit her legs so one side of her leg was broken. They had to send her to the hospital. But right now she is o.k.

In Colombia Bogota, someday the weather is very cold. In my city there are too many tornadoes, sometimes earthquakes. In my city houses fall down, because the Bogota River side floods. In the month of September it rains a lot. It is a severe torment, with extremely violent forescast fall down.

Viet Nam is my first country. In my country, there is a lot of rain but it was not cold so much. Sometimes we have a flood, storm and earthquake. If it rains too much, somebody live near by big river, they have to move to higher ground to be safer. If you want to go out when it rains, you have to wear rain coat, if you don't do that, you will get wet. Because almost all Vietnamese ride motorcyles. In my country there are some of foreigners ride motorcycles, too.

Some day in my country the weather is cold. Sometimes it was hot and humid. I like
my country. Every day is beautiful. Also it has big rivers and some lakes. Another city my sister lived in had warm weather.

Paco's country (The empire's of Incas)

My country is Peru. It make 500 years aproximately the name's of Peru was Tahuantinsuyo, an Empire with 12 million of poblation. In this time Peru was near all South America, except Brazil. The city capital of Tahuantinsuyo was Cusco, that's meen "navel of the world". The Inca was name of leader or king. He was sun's son. Until end Empire, in the 17th century, there was 14 Incas. The last Inca was Atahualpa and he was daided for the Spanish warriors. Near the city of Cusco there are Machupicchu, a city of rocks. In this year 2007 Machupicchu was declared 7th Wonder of World. Is a good place for tourism of adventure.

My friend had a very bad car accident. Her car was damaged and she survived. The ambulance took her to the hospital. She stayed one night in the hospital. When she came back home her back hurt.

I was born in Mexico, but I grew up in Guadalajara, jal. When I was young, I lived with my parents. I was always happy. One of my earliest memory is of when I was playing soccer with a broken foot. My most memorable teacher was Carmelita from the first grade. I remember her because she was a good teacher. The same with my teacher Michelle Fuller. I am happy because my husband does not have prostatic cancer, and I feel very happy for my new granddaughter. Her name is Daphne Camille.
