Election TV ads

Here are four TV ads for Obama and McCain. After each ad, answer the questions on your own paper. You DON'T need to understand everything in the ad. Only watch each ad two times.

Put on your headphones, then click on the middle of this TV screen and watch this Obama Ad.



Here are the questions:
1. What or who do you see in this ad?

2. How does it make you feel? (angry, hopeful, sad, . . .)

3. Choose one answer. What is the main idea of this ad?
a. McCain is bad.
b. Obama will lower taxes.
c. We are one, united country.


Ad #2. Don't get confused, this is an Obama ad. Hint: maverick means a person who makes their own choices. If John McCain is a maverick, that means that he doesn't agree with Bush all the time.

6. Choose one answer. What is the main idea of this ad?
a. McCain is a maverick.
b. McCain is the same as George Bush.
C. Vote for John McCain.

Here's ad #3. This is an ad for John McCain.

8. How does it make you feel?

9. Choose one answer. What is the main idea of this ad?
a. Obama is a celebrity, he is famous.
b. Obama is a bad man.
c. Obama is not ready to be president.

Here's the last one. #4. This is also an ad for McCain.

12. Choose one answer. What is the main idea of this ad?
a. Obama wants kindergarten children to learn about sex.
b. Obama likes education.
c. John McCain doesn't like Obama.

13. For all the ads, do you believe all of them? Why? What makes you believe an ad or not believe an ad?

14. Do you think Obama or McCain has better ads? Why?
